Hello, welcome to our first beauty blog post and what better way to start than to talk about some of my favourite skin products. Starting off the year right, of course!
My skin is far from perfect, its gone from being really dry to now super oily. I have always had sensitive skin, so i have had to be careful with what i can apply. I have never really had a “real” skin care routine until I turned 18. My skin also started to become more tolerable which meant that i was now able to apply make up and my skin wouldn’t go crazy. I remember when my cousin took me to Sephora (I fell in love, literally) to help me buy my first beauty products but she also told me that i needed a really good skin care routine, she emphasised how important it was. So when i came back I got myself a set of products from Kiehls.
But after about a year, i started to make small changes because these products just weren’t doing it for me anymore. My skin became dry so i went back to Aveeno, let me just tell you Aveeno was a LIFE SAVER! so hydrating, never made my skin feel greasy until… the last 6 months. My skin became oily i mean it was seeping oil. I also started to breakout, i’ve always suffered from small breakouts but this time I wasn’t just getting the odd pimple here and there i was getting deep congested pimples (gross i know). But even when i changed my products it wasn’t helping, i started going for products that were specifically for acne prone skin. Big mistake. Most of these products say they help to get rid of acne when they really don’t.
So i decided to do some serious research and i found that i should be using products that are non-comedogenic – which essentially means it won’t block my pores (what have I been doing *face palm*). This is soo important especially if you have oily skin or just congested pores.
So here is a break down of all the products i now use:
Step 1: CeraVe Foaming Cleanser £9/
This brand has been developed with dermatologists so when i knew this i was like sold! This cleanser is specifically for those with normal-to-oily skin. Compared with all my previous face washes this just cleanses better and it doesn’t feel like a layer of my skin has been stripped away. The reason why is because it includes ceramides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide all of which help to soothe, hydrate and reinforce the skins barrier.
Step 2: Pixi Rose Tonic 250ml £18
I love anything to do with rose water, it just smells soo good. Rose water is great for soothing irritated skin, reducing any redness and helps to balance pH and tone skin.
Step 3: Serum – The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% £5
This product honestly saved my life (and its super cheap!) I have been using this for a solid 2 months and i have definitely noticed an improvement. This essentially helps to control sebum levels and reduce any congestion. My skin is no longer as oily as it used to be and it has significantly reduced the amount of breakouts i have been getting. I use this AM and PM.
Just a side note: Do not apply it with Vitamin C and make sure you use them at different times e.g. Niacinamide in the AM and Vitamin C in the PM.
Step 4: Vitamin E eye cream £13
Vitamin E is known to be very hydrating which Is why I love this
Step 5: Simple hydrating gel £4.29 /CeraVe Facial moisturiser SPF 25 £12
I use CeraVe moisturiser in the AM especially if i am out because it has SPF. I’m someone who has always hated applying SPF to my face (it would irritate and feel super thick) so i avoided it all costs. But this is lightweight, has never caused any irritation and just absorbs really well.
Light hydrating gel – I use this during the day if I am at home and at night time. Only because this is light weight but still hydrating so my skin is still able to breathe.
So there you have it my everyday skin care routine! These are the products that I have found work well for me however everyones skin is different so please always test the products before hand.
I hope you enjoyed reading!
