Hi guys, hope everyone is having a lovely day! So today I decided to share with you how I clean my makeup brushes. When I started getting into makeup, I was buying a lot of brushes and then I realised well you have all these brushes but you don’t have a cleanser *palmface*. I had been looking at some brush cleansers but they were quite expensive and i just didn’t want to spend so much money. The only cleansers i have tried are from Beauty Blender – i got a sample size when i ordered some products from Cult Beauty and then i tried the Sigma Cleanser. Both were really great but also expensive.
So, I started googling how to clean your brushes with products in your home, and I eventually came across this recipe on YouTube and I have been using it ever since! What I loved about this cleanser was that these are products that we have in our house daily, they last a long time and they are inexpensive!
What you need:
- Coconut oil– this helps to condition and protect your brushes whilst pulling out any grime. I never imagined using this in my brushes but if we can eat it and apply it to our bodies then why not apply it to your brushes. So, I like to use about 1 tablespoon, pop that into a bowl and heat it up for about 30-45 seconds.
- Fairy Liquid– If this is good enough for our dishes then its definitely good enough for your brushes. Fairy liquid ensures that all the dirt and grease built up in your brushes is eliminated but it can dry out your brushes and this is where the coconut oil helps! I don’t really go by measurements I kind of just go off consistency, but I would say I add about 1-2 tablespoons.
- Antibacterial Gel– You can use antibacterial soap too, but I have a tonne of these gels, so I just add about 1 teaspoon. This just adds extra antibacterial properties and it makes the brushes smell really clean and fresh
This is what it looks like, it looks a little gross i know but it really does work. Trust me!
I like to start off by running my brushes under lukewarm water, make sure you never use boiling hot water as this can damage the bristles, I’ve made this mistake before, never again! One by one I’ll just dip each brush into the cleanser and start massaging it onto my hand. Once this is done with all your brushes go ahead and rinse them out and leave them to air dry or place them by a heater. There you have it a simple DIY, inexpensive makeup brush cleanser!
I hope you enjoyed reading this post, if you guys have any other DIY recipes of your own i would love to hear them I am always looking to try new recipes! See you on the next post.
